Setting and Entering Student Goals
Setting goals for student learning involves a delicate balance between having high expectations and knowing what is realistically possible to expect, given the level at which the student is starting, the particular skill area on which instruction is focused, and the amount of time devoted to providing supplemental instruction and support.
For some students, an individual teacher might set goals based on their knowledge of where students should be by the end of the year. If a student scores at the 50th percentile, then they would be performing at average grade level expectations for that measure at that time of year. In situations where a student study team or IEP team meet, goals are frequently set in consultation with the student, their parents/guardians, and other specialist who might provide additional insights.
To gain more insight into setting and entering student goals you can:
- Refer to: Chapter 20: View Reports and Use Data to Make Decisions in the Teacher's Manual
- Access Chapter 21, Assign Students to Interventions in the Teacher's Manual
-
Explore the "Goal" feature click on: Decision Making with easyCBM
In the second section, "Using easyCBM for Identification Decisions", click the arrow to the right to open drop-down menu.
In the drop-down menu, select the "Setting Goals: Overview Video"
Once you have scheduled an intervention and decided on an appropriate goal, you can add the goal to the student's graph.
To enter goals for a student, login to your easyCBM Dashboard and click on the Reports tab.

Next, select the "Individuals" tab.

Last, locate the student's name and click on the "Goals" link to the right of their name.

At the "Goals for "Student" page, click on "New Goal" to start.

Next, you'll be asked to enter the measure, the date for the goal, the score for the goal, and a description. Click "Save" to finish.

*Note: Goals should be entered based on the raw scale of the measure (e.g., correct words read per minute), not on percentile ranks. You can use the percentile rank lookup table to help you decide which raw score would be appropriate for the goal you're setting.
Now that the "Goal" has been set, once the student has been tested three times on the measure, an aim line will appear on the student's individual graph, starting with the median of the first three scores and ending with the goal that has been set.
